Suspension of Wind [Jutsu Training]
It was many a times that Miku Arechi was overlooked. It was the height, the age, or her sometimes withdrawn behavior. Her body appear frail, her skin a tone to pale. It was these things that stacked against her, but she would even it out. Other factors would come into the equation, she made sure of it. Maybe that was what made her the way she is. Was that the secret behind her success? To become a good killer, did one always have to be the underdog? Then, at the right moment, they would spring to achieve victory in such a way that left others trembling? Not many can answer that question, but Miku wasn't always the jonin she is now, or the anbu chunin that recovered from impossible odds. Just as many, she started as a genin, but there was one event that divide her from her graduated classmates. A event that deeply changed her.
The young genin pressed her stomach against the frozen ground, not a single breath escaping her lungs. The taste of copper coated her tongue, the smell of blood marking the land as a battle field. The ground is charred with ash and cracked ice. There was the soft glow of embers in the distance, and the coat of smoke from a left over explosion that overcast the clearing. Her eyes were focused forward, never glancing at her surroundings. She was completely entranced on the silhouette through the heavy cover of smoke. Her nails dug deeply into the soil, the snow crunching beneath her tightly clenched fists. The only thing keeping her from detection was the forage that heavily coated the thick forest. The genin could hear the sniffs and shivers of her team, but this shinobi wasn't going to budge.
“M-Miku” Miku clenched her eyes tightly, trying not to break away. Her companions were around her, staring at the situation like scared children. Ironic, since Miku was no older then either of them. It had been a last moment action. It had been luck that had allowed her to drag them away from the siege. Surely, they would have fallen by now if not. It was the sound of a sick laughter that made her tremble, but only briefly. She could hear a sound, a sound that was slick and wet. There came a crunch afterward. After that, silence.
Her body went rigid as the cover seemed to fade, her team mates trembling violently. Miku knew what she was going to see before her eyes even registered it. The target, the man they had been attacked by, stood still as stone. A sword seemed to stick from his side, obviously deeply ridged there from another. Yet, he stood, laughing darkly as he leaned against the charred remains of a tree.
The man who had inflicted this blow, however, wasn't moving. Ever so slowly, Miku Arechi crawls out from cover, standing to her feet ever so slowly. She ignores the protests of those behind her. Snow clung to her clothes, while ash coated the sides of her face. The genin spat, red blood splattering the ground.
She walked forward, looming over the body of their body guard. This had been a mission that their sensei had been unable to make. So, a backup had been given in his stay. That backup, however, was unable to do his job. He had been a nice enough man, plain in appearance.
“What do we have here? The sickly one decides to show herself? Are you here to surrender, to save your little squad?” Her eyes are cold as she lifts her head. She doesn't raise her head all the way, her eyes piercing from beneath her red hood. Her bruised hands were brought to her neck. Ever so slowly, she unties her headband, allowing it to drop to the ground. Generations of history boiled in her veins. Years upon years of cruel training and deeply rigged morals rose to the surface. For once, the genin knew what it felt like to be her father and his father before him.
“I'm going to finish the job.” The man laughed again, blood spilling from his lips like a fountain. The sword was ripped from his side, and he stood powerfully. Miku stood still as death, ready to strike. It was hard to believe they thought this guy was going to be a bandit. It seemed like such a stupid thought now.
“You? The runt of the group? Honestly, I'm sh-” His sentence was cut short. In less then a second, Miku had drawn the her blades from her side. They glowed in the dim lightning. Despite how old they were, they seemed just as powerful as the day they had first been cast. Miku clenched these unfamiliar weapons in her hands. They had been a parting gift from her grandfather. A gift that should have gone to her father, but skipped right to her. Why? Her grandfather claimed that the weapon chose the user. Maybe a part of these blades thought of her as her grandfather. She wasn't too sure.
“Arechi? Huh. Color me surprised.”
“I'd rather color you red.”
“Ha! A challenge. Well then, let's see if you can live up to that threat.” Despite the gaping wound, the gorilla of a man swung the blade at a sharp vertical, then charged at speeds almost inhuman. Miku barely managed to side step away from the charge, the tree behind her was cleaved in half. The ground shook violently as it collapsed. She only had another split second to dodge yet another charge. This rogue darted back and forth, swinging his weight around like a charging bull.
Her blades were tightly pressed against steel in a split second. Miku had to skid back, her blades held in a strong split formation. Her legs nearly gave out from under her as the weight of his impact rattled through her bones. Clenching her teeth together tightly, Miku felt her confidence slowly crumble. The rogue noticed, not halting the offense. It was only after a few charges that the small genin was thrown off her feet. Her back collided with a tree, a soft yelp escaping her lips as she hit the ground. There had been a crack, maybe one of her ribs? It took a few silent moments for her to stand to her feet again, both blades dragging across the ground.
“Oh, is that all?” There was the presence of a blade beneath her chin. “Can't say I'm surprised. So young, you never stood a chance anyways.” His hand seemed to shake from the effort of holding up the blade. In a split second, Miku threw her head back, her knee smacking the sword up.
She did a back hand spring, her fingers already forming hand signs. Mind you, she had no idea just what she was forming. There was only the idea of what she wanted. As the last seal was made, a round ball of condensed wind was gathered in front of her. Her eyes snapped open, chakra flowing through her veins. He charged again, but she was ready for it this time. As he came close, she grasped the ball into her hands, clenching it tightly as it vibrated between her finger tips. Miku tossed it forward. He ducked under the attack, smirking. “It'll take more then that to win, you know?”
Miku didn't blink. There was no sound of impact. In fact, the ball hadn't even faded. “Check.” She responded, holding out her hand. It seemed like the rouge seemed to register his mistake, but it was too late. Miku snapped her fingers, the sound echoing across the clearing. The ball seemed to grow smaller, twisting around in a clockwise direction. Tendrils of wind rotating off the chakra composed object. The wind seemed to drag her in, but she held her ground as she dug her blades into the ground to not shift from her position.
Her foe, however, was ripped from the ground violently. Her wind jutsu was working as a miniature tornado, sucking up other objects. Of course, it would only be strong enough to immobilize him for a few seconds. That was all the time she needed and more. Miku charged at him, both blades ready. As the jutsu faded, she had already pinned him to the ground with both feet on his shoulders.
He didn't have a chance to react, as her blades proceeded to drop down. There was a loud shatter, blood spilling across the ground again. The genin stumbled away from the corpse, her first kill completed. As to how she FELT about it, she wasn't quiet sure. As the world around her began to dim, she fell into open arms, a cold ANBU mask looking down at her. She only managed to mutter ever so softly, “sensei.” before everything went black.
- Spoiler:
